Trade Accounts for Regular Sellers
Preferential pricing, faster weighing, and a dedicated point of contact — for contractors, manufacturers, and anyone selling scrap regularly.
Why Open a Trade Account?
If you're visiting us more than once a month, a trade account makes every visit faster and more profitable.
Who Is It For?
Any business or sole trader with regular scrap metal to sell.
Set Up Your Trade Account Today
Takes 5 minutes. Bring photo ID and a bank account in your business name on your first visit.
What a Trade Account Includes
More than just a faster queue — a trade account changes the commercial relationship.
Preferential pricing. Trade account holders receive better rates than walk-in prices. The uplift reflects the predictability of your volume — regular sellers are more valuable to us than one-off visitors, and we price accordingly. Rates are reviewed when market conditions change significantly. Payment is always same day by BACS — trade account holders are not on different payment terms to walk-in customers.
Named point of contact. You deal with the same person rather than whoever is available at the yard on a given day. Your contact knows your typical load profile, your preferences, and your account status. For queries about pricing or payment, there's someone specific to call.
Faster processing at the yard. Trade account holders are pre-registered — ID is already on file, bank details are stored, and the paperwork is pre-populated. Turnaround at the yard is faster than first-time or occasional sellers.
Formal documentation. Every transaction generates a purchase note with metal grade, weight, price per tonne, and total value. Payment is same day by BACS — the same as walk-in customers. Monthly statements summarise all transactions in the period for your accounts records. VAT receipts available on request.
Collection service priority. Trade account holders get priority scheduling for commercial collections and site container delivery. If collection capacity is limited, account holders are scheduled first.
The Businesses That Benefit Most
If you're generating scrap metal as a by-product of what you do, a trade account makes the admin disappear.
Plumbers and heating engineers accumulate copper pipe, fittings, and brass valves continuously. A weekly or fortnightly drop-off turns what most plumbers treat as waste into a consistent secondary income stream — often £200–500 per month for a busy one-man operation.
Electricians and electrical contractors generate cable ends, conduit, and old wiring on every job. Cable grades vary — bright stripped wire, PVC cable, armoured — and getting each grade priced correctly rather than blended makes a real difference over a month.
Building and demolition contractors are our largest trade account customers. A demolition or refurbishment project can generate tonnes of mixed ferrous and non-ferrous material. Containers on site, scheduled collections, and formal site records for environmental compliance are all included.
Engineering and manufacturing businesses generating offcuts, swarf, and production waste benefit from regular scheduled collections and formal transaction records. New steel offcuts and non-ferrous production scrap pay well — and consistent volumes attract better rates.
Vehicle breakers and motor trade — aluminium castings, copper wiring looms, lead-acid batteries, and catalytic converters all buy well. Volume-based pricing for the motor trade is standard.
Opening a Trade Account — What's Needed
Simple process, one-off admin, and you're up and running.
To open a trade account you'll need:
- Photo ID for the account holder (driving licence or passport)
- Proof of business — Companies House printout, VAT certificate, or headed letter
- Bank details for BACS payments
- Contact name and number for your account manager to use
For sole traders, your personal ID and a business bank statement is sufficient. For limited companies, a Companies House printout confirming the registered business is standard.
There's no minimum volume requirement — trade accounts are open to any business or sole trader who sells scrap metal regularly. Set up in person at any of our three depots, or call us to get started. Most accounts are active from your first visit — no waiting period, no approval process.
Call us on 0808 304 0673 or use the contact form to enquire about rates and account terms for your specific metal types and volumes.
