Who's Behind It

The People in Charge

QuickStop Metals is run by Adam Moffatt and Jamie McCann. Adam comes from a long line of North England scrap dealers. His grandfather (pictured) and the generations before him were buying and selling metal up here long before most of today's national names were trading, including EMR, founded in Sheffield in 1956. Adam has spent his whole working life in the trade.

QuickStop Metals Ltd was incorporated on 17 June 2024 with a simple idea: bring proper customer service to a sector some people are nervous of. Pay fairly. Weigh on calibrated scales you can see yourself. Publish today's prices on the website, the same at all three yards. Same day BACS. No cash. No haggling at the gate.

Non-ferrous metals are typically the most valuable scrap. We specialise in buying copper, brass, aluminium, lead, zinc, stainless steel and nickel alloys, all priced daily against the London Metal Exchange.

Scrap Metal FAQs

Do I need an appointment to sell scrap metal?
No appointment needed at any of our three depots. Drive straight in during opening hours: Mon–Fri 8am–4:30pm, Sat 8am–12pm. We'll weigh your metal and pay you the same day.
Do I need ID to sell scrap metal?
Yes. Under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 we must verify your identity. Please bring a valid photo ID (driving licence or passport) and proof of address. We can't buy without it.
How quickly do I get paid?
We pay by BACS bank transfer the same day. Money is typically in your account within a couple of hours of your visit. We don't pay cash. Bank transfer only.
What types of scrap metal do you buy?
We buy non-ferrous metals (copper, brass, aluminium, lead, stainless steel), plus gold, silver, car batteries, electric motors and catalytic converters. On the ferrous side we only buy brake discs and Mixed Tool Steel — we don’t currently buy general ferrous scrap such as heavy steel, light iron, cast iron, new offcuts or mixed loads.
How do you work out the price?
We weigh your metal on calibrated digital scales. You can see the reading yourself. We then apply the current market price for each grade. Prices are updated daily and shown on our prices page.
