Scrap Lead Buyers
We buy all grades of scrap lead — roofing lead, pipe, sheet, wheel weights, and battery lead.
About Scrap Lead
Lead is a consistently valuable metal and we buy it in all common forms. Roofers are our biggest lead suppliers — old flashing, valleys, and soakers are all welcome. Plumbers occasionally bring old lead pipe from Victorian properties. We also buy wheel weights and lead batteries. All lead is weighed on calibrated scales and paid the same day.
Grades We Accept
Old roof flashing, lead valleys, soakers.
Old Victorian or Edwardian lead pipe.
Lead sheet from any source.
Pig lead, cable sheathing.
Stick-on or clip-on wheel balance weights.
Car, van, lorry, or industrial batteries.

Lead From Roofing Work — What We See Every Day
Roofing contractors are our biggest lead suppliers. Here's what comes in most often.
Old milled lead sheet from flat roof relays is the most common load we see from roofers. When a flat roof goes over — often on an extension, a bay window roof, or a porch — the old lead comes off in sheets. Even a small bay roof replacement can yield 40–60kg of lead. A full flat roof relay on an extension might be 150–200kg. At typical prices, that's a meaningful payout that partially offsets the cost of new materials.
Lead flashing — the strips used to weatherproof junctions between a roof and a wall — is equally welcome. Step flashing, cover flashing, soakers, aprons: we take it all. Bring it as-is. There's no need to clean it, straighten it, or remove the mortar that's often stuck to one side — we weigh it gross and price accordingly.
Lead from demolition follows a similar pattern. Churches and older public buildings often have substantial lead reserves — valleys, gutters, dormer flashings, even lead-lined tanks. Demolition contractors handling listed buildings or heritage properties will typically encounter significant lead volumes.
Lead is heavy — a square metre of 6-code milled lead weighs around 35kg. It looks like a small load but it isn't. Don't underestimate the weight when planning a trip.
Selling Lead: What the Law Requires
Lead has specific legal controls under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 was partly a response to the significant problem of lead theft — particularly from church and historic building roofs. As a result, we are legally required to record the identity of every person who sells lead to us, regardless of amount or value. You will need valid photo ID (driving licence or passport) and proof of address on your first visit. We keep these records and they may be inspected by police or local authority licensing officers.
This isn't bureaucracy for its own sake — it's a system that protects legitimate sellers (roofers, demolition contractors, homeowners) from being tarred with the same brush as thieves, and it gives us a defensible audit trail. We've never had a problem with a legitimate seller. Bring your ID, in and out in minutes.
If you're a roofing business buying lead regularly and need invoices and formal receipts for your accounts, ask about a trade account. We can issue proper purchase documentation for every transaction.
