Overview
Zinc is element 30, a bluish-white transition metal that has been used since at least 1000 BC, originally without recognition as a distinct element. Its primary modern use is galvanising — protecting steel from rust by sacrificial coating. Zinc is also half of brass (the other half being copper). UK zinc consumption is dominated by galvanised steel and die-casting alloys for vehicle components. The LME zinc market is one of the largest base metal markets globally.
Our Scrap Grades for This Metal
We buy zinc primarily through brass alloys (which contain 30–40% zinc) and as wheel weights (modern lead-free alternative).
